3 days agoThe North West Provincial Treasury has issued a stern warning to the public and service providers about a wave of fraudulent messages circulating online and through direct communication channels, falsely claiming that government tenders have been awarded. These scams impersonate senior officials and attempt to mislead businesses into believing they have successfully won contracts.
According to the Treasury, the messages often reference non-existent bid numbers and use fabricated “award letters” to appear legitimate. Officials have firmly stated that no legitimate tender communication is ever done informally or through unofficial channels, and the Head of Department is not involved in procurement decisions or awarding processes.
The department emphasized that all procurement in the province follows strict Supply Chain Management regulations and transparent procedures. Any legitimate tender outcome is always communicated through verified government platforms and formal notices.
Service providers and members of the public are urged to remain extremely vigilant, avoid sharing personal or banking details, and never pay money to secure a tender. Authorities further encourage victims or recipients of suspicious messages to report them immediately to law enforcement.
This latest alert reinforces a growing concern about tender-related fraud in South Africa, where scammers continue to exploit the hopes of small businesses seeking government opportunities.
