Gauteng Deputy Judge President Aubrey Ledwaba has firmly denied any allegations of misconduct linked to the controversial bail granted to alleged cartel figure Katiso “KT” Molefe. Speaking during his Judicial Service Commission (JSC) interview, Ledwaba stressed that his decision was made strictly within his judicial duties and under urgent court conditions.

He told the commission that he did not know Molefe personally, had never met him, and did not receive any form of payment or improper influence. According to him, the matter was assigned to him because the court was understaffed during recess, leaving no available judge to handle urgent bail applications. He emphasized that handling urgent bail matters is part of normal judicial responsibilities and not an exception in his career.

The allegations emerged amid broader scrutiny of judicial integrity linked to high-profile criminal cases. However, Ledwaba maintained that his involvement was procedural, lawful, and consistent with standard court practice.

The case has sparked renewed debate about public trust in the judiciary, especially when decisions involve individuals accused of serious organised crime. Ledwaba’s firm denial aims to separate judicial duty from speculation, while the Judicial Service Commission continues its assessment of his suitability for the position of Judge President.

As the discussion unfolds, the spotlight remains on accountability, transparency, and the independence of South Africa’s courts in politically sensitive and high-stakes cases.
