United Democratic Movement (UDM) leader Bantu Holomisa has described South Africa’s newly appointed ambassador to the United States as a strategic and experienced leader capable of strengthening diplomatic ties between Pretoria and Washington.

Holomisa said the ambassador’s long history of engaging with American lawmakers and political delegations gives him a strong advantage in navigating complex international relations. He noted that consistent interaction with US senators and officials over the years has prepared him for high-level negotiations and lobbying efforts in Washington.

According to Holomisa, the ambassador’s leadership style is marked by patience, careful decision-making, and a deep understanding of political processes. He argued that these qualities are essential at a time when South Africa is seeking to stabilise and improve its relationship with the United States amid global geopolitical tensions.

He further suggested that the appointment reflects a pragmatic choice, emphasizing experience over political symbolism. Holomisa believes the envoy will be effective in promoting South Africa’s interests, particularly in trade, investment, and diplomatic cooperation.

The comments come as the appointment has sparked mixed reactions across South Africa, with some praising the move as strategic, while others question its political implications.

Holomisa, however, maintains confidence that the ambassador will handle the role with composure and strategic clarity, helping to reset and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
