15 hrs agoLet’s be honest.
In Nigeria, a wedding is not just a ceremony.
It’s a statement.
Hall. Decor. Aso-ebi. Live band. 500 guests.
Food that must not finish. Pictures that must trend.
Because people are not just attending your wedding…
They are rating it.
Now here’s the real question:
Is the wedding for you… or for them?
Because many couples spend millions on one day…
Then start marriage under pressure.
Loans. Debts. Financial stress.
But nobody talks about that part.
They only remember the pictures.
Now imagine this instead:
Simple court wedding.
Small gathering.
No pressure. No show.
Use the money for something else.
House deposit.
Business.
Travel.
Stability.
Sounds smart, right?
But reality is different.
Family expectations enter.
“People must come.”
“What will others say?”
“This is once in a lifetime.”
Now it’s no longer your decision alone.
Culture steps in.
Parents want recognition.
Friends want celebration.
Society wants spectacle.
And suddenly, your “simple plan” looks like disrespect.
Now here’s the deeper issue:
Many people don’t actually want a big wedding.
They want the validation that comes with it.
The attention. The moment. The approval.
Because for one day, everything revolves around you.
That feeling is powerful.
But it’s temporary.
Marriage is not.
So the real question is not:
“Can you marry without a big wedding?”
The real question is:
Are you strong enough to ignore expectations?
Because choosing small in a loud society takes confidence.
Now be honest.
If it was completely up to you…
Would you go big…
or keep it simple and invest in your future?
No middle ground.
Pick one.
