When You Try to Save Money in Nigeria

Saving money sounds easy… until you actually try it.

    You’ll say:

“This month, I will not spend anyhow.”

    Very bold statement.

    Very unserious plan.

    Day 1: You’re strong.

    Day 2: Still focused.

    Day 3…

    Your friend says:

    “Let’s go out small.”

That “small” is where problems begin.

    You go out.

    You sit down.

    You say:

    “I’m not spending.”

    Then they bring food.

The aroma alone will break your financial discipline.

    You’ll start calculating:

“Life is short… let me enjoy small.”

Next thing, you’ve spent half your budget.

    You go home.

    Open your account balance.

    And just laugh.

    Because crying is too expensive.

Then unexpected expenses will come like uninvited guests:

    Data subscription

    Transport increase

    “Urgent 2k please” messages

    Random hunger at midnight

At this point, your savings plan becomes a motivational quote.

    You’ll say:

    “Next month will be better.”

    But deep down…

You know Nigeria will humble you again.

    ASK SOMEONE???

So what have we been doing since??

    Tourism??

    At that moment, you’ll realize:

    Some people don’t guide.

    They explore with confidence.

    And the funniest part?

    They’re never ashamed.

    They’ll laugh and say:

    “At least we’re close.”

    Close to where??

    Confusion??

Since that day, I learned something important:

If someone says “I think I know the road”…

    RUN.
