The controversy, which has followed him for years, continues to draw political scrutiny, although he maintains he had no involvement in any concealment of wrongdoing.
Adding to the political tension, questions have also emerged around governance at South African Airways (SAA), where a recent acting CEO appointment has sparked criticism from commentators who argue that proper experience and due process were not sufficiently considered.
