According to the latest Brand Finance South Africa 100 report, the combined value of the country’s top 100 brands soared 12 % to a staggering R771 billion in 2026, signaling resilience and renewed investor confidence in the market.
Telecom giant MTN has reinforced its dominance, holding onto the title of South Africa’s most valuable brand for the 13th year in a row, with a brand value of roughly R50.9 billion, driven by growth in data services, fintech platforms, and strategic sponsorships.
Close behind is Vodacom, whose brand value climbed 9 % to R47.9 billion thanks to expansion into other African markets and the success of its digital financial offerings like VodaPay and M‑Pesa.
The banking sector also made a powerful statement, with Standard Bank, First National Bank, and Absa all featuring in the top five, benefitting from strong digital investment and customer engagement.
Retail brands such as Checkers and Shoprite remain influential too; Checkers, in particular, was recognised as the strongest brand overall with an exceptional Brand Strength Index score.
This dynamic mix of telecom, banking, and retail titans highlights not only South Africa’s brand strength but also the diversity and adaptability of its corporate landscape
