2 hrs agoThe political temperature in Tshwane is rising as the Democratic Alliance (DA) intensifies its campaign to remove Deputy Mayor Eugene Modise from office. At the center of the controversy are serious allegations linking Modise to corruption, particularly involving a controversial water tanker and security tender scandal.
DA mayoral candidate Cilliers Brink has taken a firm stance, insisting that Modise cannot remain in office while facing such weighty accusations. He revealed that the party has already lodged a complaint with the Public Protector and opened a criminal case, arguing that accountability must be applied consistently across the city’s leadership.
The issue has been further inflamed by what the DA describes as “selective accountability.” While another city official, Kholofelo Morodi, was swiftly removed over similar allegations, Modise has remained in his position. This disparity has raised concerns about fairness and transparency within the municipal government.
Investigations have also suggested that Modise may have benefited financially from a company linked to city contracts, despite claims that he severed ties with the business.
However, Modise has strongly denied any wrongdoing, dismissing the accusations as politically motivated.
As local elections approach, the controversy is quickly becoming a defining test of ethical leadership and governance in Tshwane, with pressure mounting on Mayor Nasiphi Moya to act decisively.
