I Was Always There for Them… Until I Realized They Were Never There for Me

This one took me time to accept.

Because at first, I thought everything was normal.

    I was always there.

Whenever they needed someone to talk to.

Whenever they were going through something.

    Whenever they felt down.

    I showed up.

    No hesitation.

    I listened.

    I supported.

    I made time.

    Even when I was busy.

    Even when I was tired.

Because that’s just who I am.

    I care deeply.

And at the time, it felt right.

    Until I started noticing something.

    When it was my turn?

    They weren’t there.

    Not the same way.

    Not with the same energy.

    Sometimes they replied late.

    Sometimes they brushed things off.

    Sometimes they just weren’t present.

    At first, I ignored it.

    I told myself:

    “It’s not that deep.”

    “Maybe I’m expecting too much.”

    So I kept giving.

    And giving.

    And giving.

Until one day, I got tired.

    Not physically.

    Emotionally.

Because there’s only so much you can pour into someone…

    Before you realize you’re empty.

    And that’s when it clicked:

    Support should not be one-sided.

    Care should not be one-sided.

    Effort should not be one-sided.

Because relationships—any kind—are supposed to be mutual.

    Not draining.

That was the moment I started choosing myself.

    And honestly?

    That’s when things changed.
