Global hospitality giant Hilton is accelerating its expansion in South Africa’s booming hotel market, with plans to open a Hilton Garden Inn in Polokwane, Limpopo, scheduled for 2028.

This new property — part of Hilton’s broader African growth strategy — will feature modern amenities including an all‑day restaurant, rooftop bar, outdoor pool, fitness centre, and flexible meeting and event spaces, making it attractive for both business and leisure travellers.

The Polokwane hotel will sit within a mixed‑use development near the city’s business district and a major retail centre, providing guests with convenience and comfort at its core.

Hilton’s move comes amid a surge of international interest in South Africa’s tourism and hospitality industry, which has been drawing global brands and investors keen to tap into rising travel demand and post‑pandemic recovery.

The company announced that it signed 29 deals across 15 African countries in 2025 alone and aims to open more than 100 hotels across the continent, creating over 20,000 job opportunities.

This growth reflects confidence in Sub‑Saharan Africa’s tourism potential, as major hotel chains jockey to establish flagship properties and capitalise on expanding domestic and international travel demand.

The Polokwane project not only strengthens Hilton’s regional footprint but also signals a vibrant future for South Africa’s hospitality landscape.
