The Northern Cape Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs has issued a 14-day ultimatum, demanding the municipality explain why such drastic intervention should not be enforced.
This development comes after the municipality failed to meet a key deadline set for early April 2026, aimed at resolving persistent internal challenges. These include leadership disputes, unstable council operations, and repeated breakdowns in decision-making processes. Such instability has significantly impacted service delivery, leaving residents increasingly frustrated.
Public dissatisfaction has grown to the point where community members are now considering petitioning the national government to step in. This signals a deep erosion of trust between the municipality and the people it serves. Meanwhile, officials in the provincial government are carefully evaluating legal and administrative options to restore order and ensure effective governance.
