3 hrs agoThe Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has welcomed the appointment of its Gauteng Chairperson, Nkululeko Dunga, as the new Finance Member of the Executive Council (MEC) in Gauteng — a strategic shift Premier Panyaza Lesufi announced during a major cabinet reshuffle.
This marks a landmark moment for the EFF, as Dunga becomes one of the first party members to hold such an influential executive position in the province. The appointment reflects broader efforts to strengthen governance and ensure a more people‑centred approach to finances, focusing on delivering essential services to residents rather than solely balancing books.
EFF National Spokesperson Sinawo Thambo stressed that Dunga’s role isn’t just symbolic — it’s about stabilising Gauteng’s fiscal framework and ensuring that public funds directly improve the lives of ordinary citizens. The party says it’s ready to participate actively in government to realise this vision.
Dunga replaces former Finance MEC Lebogang Maile, who was moved to the Education portfolio as part of the reshuffle. Lesufi’s choice comes amid efforts to foster political cooperation following budget challenges in the provincial legislature, demonstrating the growing influence of the EFF in South African regional politics.
