1 hr agoTshililo Mafuka, a dedicated farmer from Muswodi Dipeni in Musina, turned a passion for agriculture into a thriving tomato business that’s boosting the local economy and food supply. Starting with practical experience working on a farm, Mafuka strategically chose to focus on tomatoes — a crop in high demand and ideally suited to Limpopo’s climate.
Beginning on just 2.9 hectares, he built his operation, Bob and Maggie Agriculture, from the ground up — transforming rented land watered by a stream into his own farm with a borehole. His persistence paid off: his business now creates up to 20 seasonal jobs and contributes significantly to local employment.
Mafuka is one of ten smallholder farmers in Musina who supplied over 3 386 tonnes of tomatoes to Tiger Brands for its All Gold Tomato Sauce, a milestone that helped him be crowned Tiger Brands’ Emerging Farmer of the Year 2025.
A key part of his success came through the Tiger Brand Hulisani Agricultural Development Programme, which provided irrigation infrastructure, technical guidance, and financial support — all helping to expand production and strengthen his business.
Mafuka’s advice to fellow emerging farmers? Start small, stay committed, and keep learning.
