16 hrs agoAs Christians across South Africa marked Good Friday, a powerful message of unity and social responsibility echoed through the streets of Durban. Believers gathered for a silent ecumenical procession, carrying a cross as a symbol of faith, remembrance, and collective purpose. This annual march, organized by the Diakonia Council of Churches, is more than a religious ritual—it is a call to action.
Participants used the occasion to reflect on the pressing challenges facing society, including injustice, inequality, and social division. The procession, which dates back to 1985, continues to inspire communities to embrace compassion and stand together in difficult times.
Many emphasized that Good Friday is not only about remembering the sacrifice of Christ but also about living out His teachings through unity and love. Voices from the crowd highlighted the importance of connecting across differences, especially in a diverse society, urging people to act justly and walk humbly in their daily lives.
The event also coincided with a significant milestone—the 50th anniversary of the Diakonia Council—adding deeper meaning to the gathering. Ultimately, the message was clear: faith must go beyond reflection and inspire real change, encouraging individuals and communities to unite in confronting social challenges
